I just discovered and immediately fell in love with the chic M.I.L.C.K clutches by ela. (An acronym for Money Identification Lipstick Cellphone Keys.) Modern sophisticated, classic pieces with a bit of a twist, beautifully tailored with heirloom worthy quality and tailoring that I believe are bound to soon make them a cult classic.
Created by fellow Torontonian Ela Kowalewska who discovered her passion for fine leather goods while working in public relations for Hermès Canada and Burberry in London. A chance meeting with Jimmy Choo who saw her sketches and encouraged her to pursue her own designs sealed her fate. Now back in Toronto, and working with fiance and business partner Martin Aldorsson they've centred her eponymous brand around the concept of 'humble luxury' -“we always try to showcase rather than upstage the wearer,” Aldorsson says. The pieces are understated with attention to fine materials and hardware, all made locally in Toronto.
I absolutely love the style and this mentality - far too often in recent times, when searching for simple, basic pieces (simple black leather boots or a handbag) - a seemingly simple task , I'm presented a huge array of embellishments and chintzy details, but find it near impossible to find classic, simple pieces. As soon as I discovered ela, I thought, 'This is exactly what I've been looking for - a local, independent company, with beautifully designed pieces and a commitment to quality.' A beautiful investment piece for your wardrobe and supporting a fantastic independent business - what's better than that?
