The unbelievably mild weather we've been enjoying has made it impossible not to want to spend every waking minute outdoors. The leaves have burst into a fanfare of bright colour, and as each leave floats softly towards the ground it's become quite apparent that autumn is in full swing. A close substitute to being outside would have to be The Farnworth House in Illinois, designed by Mies van der Rohe in 1945 for a client - Dr Edith Farnsworth, it blends seamlessly with its natural environment. Mies' philosophy on architecture coexisting with nature (below) sums up what this house has so beautifully achieved.
"Nature should also have a life of its own. We should avoid disturbing it with the excessive color of our houses and our interior furnishings. Indeed, we should strive to bring Nature, houses, and people together into a higher unity. When one looks through the glass walls of the Farnsworth House it takes on a deeper significance than when one stands outside. More of Nature is thus expressed – it becomes part of a greater whole."
-Mies van der Rohe

No way! I can't imagine living here. I am way too much of a cluttered person. But I wish I could and just wake up to see the beauty all around. Gorgeous.
It almost blends in with the outdoors - beautiful!
Love it!!!!
I love the clean lines and the windows. Nothing prettier than bringing the outdoors in...
Oh to be able to live in a glass house with no "stuff." Think I would like less clutter and the setting is idyllic. Happy weekend!
With the trees being so beautiful lately, I've been thinking if I ever buy a house I want to base it partly on old beautiful trees, I want one or two huge old ones! Like, it's as important as 2 bathrooms or something. I want it to be top priority.
All clean and stylish and not for long if there's kids about.
But outside....WOW! That's autumn right there! But looks a lot better in the sun than if it was raining!
Though not my style of home, I love architects who think this way!
Have a great weekend.
Oh, I have a new Designer Pillows Giveaway I hope you will join!
