    Wedding Inspiration: L'heure magique

    My inspiration for the wedding theme has come from my absolute favourite time of day - L'heure magique - the magic hour. The time when the sun is setting but the sky is still ablaze giving everyone a warm, radiant glow and when lights start to peak out and twinkle... it's always seemed magical and exciting to me.

    {Inspiration Board No. 1}

    1 - pink peonies (flickr)
    2 - pretty cupcakes (selina lake)
    3 - pink petals and candlelight (martha stewart)
    4 - wedding dress (j crew)
    5 - pink lanterns (flickr)
    6 - japanese floral paper (the paper place)
    7 - blue bridesmaid's dresses (j crew)

    {Board No. 2}

    1 - Dinner at Dusk (martha stewart)
    2 - Paper Butterflies (martha stewart) - I am especially excited about this one, this is actually my special skill, cutting out paper butterflies, I've been doing it for years :)
    3 - playful, wonderful photography - like one of my very favourite romantic pictures of Joanna and Alex (Cup of Jo) by amazing photographer Max Wanger.

    I would really love to hear your feedback!! I have been a little bit of a reluctant bride, being already legally married, and a bit caught up in some of the stressful side of these things. I'm ready to have some fun and be creative celebrating this happy occasion!

    Have any of you got any great DIY ideas to share? Or any ideas from any of the pictures above? I'm in desperate need of all assistance.

    Just out of curiosity, can you get to the beach by any chance. Sometimes a classic like walk on the beach is the perfect idea if you still have some time after the wedding to yourself, but don't want to go home yet.

    That's a lovely idea Nicolette! My initial wish was to have a casual beach wedding. We're in Toronto and by the lake, so we do have a beach of sorts. We are having our wedding at the Botanical gardens so I love the idea of a nice walk afterwards - a great way to decompress and maybe think about the wonderful day (I hope :) ) you just enjoyed.

    Incredible...I love the thought behind these boards. I think understated elegance with tiny, pretty details is the best way to go. I love going to a wedding or party and coming across an element of surprise. Perhaps it's going around a corner at a garden party and seeing something unexpected, such as a small candelabra hanging in a tree...

    Paper lanterns are a simple way to decorate outside or inside. I particularly love the way they look at night. You will be surrounded by beautiful flowers and plants at the botanical garden, so I would inquire about the blooms (color wise) that you will be surrounded by (particular to the time of year), and start to work from there...

    Keep us posted! This is exciting! :)

    I love the petals and candlelights in the first board! There is something about candlelight that really appeals to me. Nothing brings on the romantic ambience as well as it. Thanks for sharing!

    Thank you all so much for the wonderful comments and advice! See - I knew I came to the right place... you had some wonderful suggestions!
    Sarah - I love the idea of lanterns (I've been fixated on this for quite a while!) - and you're very clever, I never thought about checking with the botanic gardens to find out what's blooming then...

    Your wedding is going to be so beautiful! I love the lanterns and outdoory-sunsetty, dreamy feel of your wedding inspiration. Reminds me of the scene on Desperate Housewives where Susan and Mike get married in the woods with all the lanterns and pretty lights strung along the trees (that's if you watch DHW?)

    Also, you are one lucky lady to have a man who loves making desserts. I left a comment for him on my blog. He needs to post that milk tart recipe of his somewhere or start a food blog or someth…
