Growing up in Africa, it wasn't uncommon to see large sets of antlers of various African antelope adorning the walls (the ones in Jenna Lyon's dressing room (below) are kudu). I grew accustomed to seeing them and often when I spot them now, I feel a slight nostalgic twinge. Antlers have a very rustic, old world feel to them. They are all at once triumphant and audacious, yet organic and giving a small tribute to nature. They blend perfectly with the fall aesthetic - a roaring fire, some plaid blankets and a stag trophy above the mantle. While they've been used in decor for hundreds of years, they still require more of a brave heart - how about you? Would you dare to bear antlers?

My boyfriend has a longhorn skull that he had on his bedroom wall before I moved in with him. Now it's in the closet ;)
I'm not opposed to having it up in the apartment, I just don't want to have it in the bedroom. So we're stashing it until we can find an appropriate spot for it. Maybe we should put it up with a Georgia O'Keefe print...
I agree I sometimes like the look. But I'm not sure I'd want them displayed on my wall... I have the same ethical problem with cowhide rugs. Love the look. Hate where it's from.
I would use an antler that a deer has shed as a decorate piece on a table or mantel, however!
I completely agree about the fall, lodge feel they exude.
Since my boyfriend is a hunter, I am guaranteed to have a future including antlers, which I think can be done very tastefully and even romantically.
Thanks for visiting and for your comment!
Happy Wednesday!
I am obsessed with these! I am desperate to find antlers for my home in Maine...I think they are lovely and add a nice rustic feel to a room. Great post!
I forgot to add that you can buy antlers from this website in Scotland: https://www. papastour.com - I have been toying with this idea for a long time.
i really like them as decor, i just prefer if they're not real (like wooden or ceramic). b and i have a ceramic bull's head over our bead, it's an antique and i love it!
That last room has long been one of my faves!
Thanks for the link Sarah!
DOC - you'll have to share a pic of that ceramic bull, I'm curious to see it now...
