    Balloons?

I'm having a debate about balloons as wedding decor - do you think they risk edging towards tacky? or are they more charming and playful? What are your thoughts?

Hmmm, I see how this could be confusing..I think those white ones look pretty. I'm not really a wedding person but I'm obsessed with this blog because the weddings featured are so pretty. http://www.oncewed.com/

Well, if the couple is short on money but have a good design to use the balloons in, I say go for it. I actally like the way the balloons are in the photo ~ unusual and they kept it very simple ~ like the white. It could look like a clown's show if the palette is wrong or if the design too elaborate....

I think if you kept it to one color - I do like the white! - it would be lovely!

I like wedding balloons when they're those huge round ones. I think they look a lot chicer! There's a martha stewart image of what i'm thinking of... i'll try to find it!

oooh, i don't know...i like the idea of white balloons. i guess my fear would be that they would pop throughout the night/day.

I love balloons... for everything. I think white and silver are pretty, but I've even used clear balloons before and sprinkled just a touch of glitter in them. If you're really careful, you can even stuff a few white feathers in the clear ones. It makes for fun dimension!!

So many good suggestions and points!!
Shannon - thanks so much for the link - oncewed is amazing, so many fantastic ideas there...
Paula - that was what I was afraid of - a clown show!
Daniella - thank you! This is lovely - Martha's been having some amazing balloon and DIY weddings lately! Like the current Martha Stewart Weddings. I am definitely having balloons in some of my wedding pictures :)
DOC - I didn't even think about the popping aspect! That would be annoying... hmmm, I'm second guessing myself now...
Kristen - what a beautiful idea! Feathers or glitter could add such a nice detail in a few balloons. Especially big round balloons - as Daniella mentioned as well.
Oh thank you everyone for all your ideas! I'm getting excited about decorating! :)

I like balloons as well kept minimal and chic. They're pretty tied with a clear fishing line or thin white ribbon to match the white balloons, perhaps attached to something very pretty. I hope this inspires :)

I do like the all white, but it would depend on the setting too. Not sure it's quite my style.

Sarah that table is gorgeous - and you're very right about the thin white ribbon or fishing line. I'm sending this picture to my sister right away!
SR - I love the white balloons in this picture, but I was actually thinking more along the lines of pink and sunny shades.

I actually think they would be charming if they are all one color. Great idea. Sort of ephemeral and light.

i think if you avoid the typical bunch all tied to a chair of something then they'll be fun and playful, especially in a giant bunch as in that great photo! i like other ideas like some have said above, placing things like white feathers inside, sounds dreamy. :)
